Forde Abbey

Last Thursday – our last full day of holiday – we went back to an old favourite; Forde Abbey, near Chard. Naturally we arrived at lunch time and headed to the tea rooms before enjoying the gardens.

We were greeted by a four-legged volunteer.

Admired the glass installation on the pond, before wandering up to the swing seat to watch the fountain (and take some silly selfies).

The herbaceous borders were a mass of colour and alive with bees.

On to the lake and the bog garden.

A slow stroll through the rockery to the arboretum before looking around the house (photos not allowed in the house).

I tried all afternoon to photograph the many swallows we saw…and I am afraid this was the best I could manage…they are VERY fast!

Once again the hot Summer’s afternoon drove us to the tea room to sit outside in the shade with a drink and an ice-cream (we really like Baboo gelato!) and watch the bees and sparrows.

Already looking forward to visiting again; perhaps in the Autumn.
