Bristol Zoo Gardens…in the rain

When Mark and I started going out, to differentiate from Sue his mum and me in conversation, I was known as Bristol Sue (I lived in Bristol then). Mark’s dad mis-heard and queried “Bristol Zoo?”. So you see in some ways Bristol Zoo has long been ‘our place’. For weeks and weeks we have been looking forward to our week off and the one thing we agreed we definitely wanted to do was to go to (our) Bristol Zoo. We decided to go on Friday and not even the torrential rain could put us off. We had a brilliant day and went home with very achy legs and feet after almost five hours walking around…oh and 440 photos! Don’t worry I have done some severe weeding of the photos.

We started with the lions…what can I say, I’m a cat person! We were there for the keeper’s talk too – I always like going to the talks.

And then we followed the signs to the lorikeets…via the most amazing birds. I really love birds; find them fascinating…even the common or garden type (actually, especially the common or garden type).

Mark and I bought a pot of food each and headed in to the lorikeets’ enclosure, following instructions to keep the pot hidden until we were beyond the yellow line. Oh my word the lorikeets are beautiful (even when rather damp and bedraggled from the rain) and they hold on to your hand while they eat and line up on your arm in case there might be a little left in the pot. They were so fantastic, we went back again before we left to feed them again – particularly nice to see them dried out a bit with their plumage back to their natural bright colours.

  2. It’s amazing, isn’t it, the way some animals look! However, I suspect they think that we look funny too!

I love comments - so do say hello!
