Last weekend my oldest friend – well longest lasting, rather than actually old – came to visit for the weekend. As well as delivering flyers up Bathwick Hill and a trip to the West Country Quilt Show at Shepton Mallet, we had a lazy Sunday stroll around Dyrham Park.
The house is set in a huge deer park, which provides lovely walks and views. This visit, however, we just walked along the drive, jumping out of the way of the courtesy bus as the driver seemed to be in a bad mood and drove rather fast towards pedestrians.
Most of the house was closed, but four rooms were open and decorated for Christmas and there were some craft stalls.
The covered passage to the church was open, but sadly we timed it wrongly for the carols…I do like a bit of singing!
A little walk around the gardens before lunch in the restaurant seemed like a good idea.
I never can resist the reflection of trees on a pond.
I love the topiary by the orangery.
…and Mark-the-cat-whisperer made a new friend.
